Title: In The Winding Down Hours
Fandom: Lost
Characters/Pairings: Claire, Jack/Sawyer
Word Count: 409
Rating: PG-13
Prompt: #5 - Syzygy for [info]philosophy_20
Summary: Claire watches them with a childlike curiosity, anxious about getting caught and at the same time fascinated by things she both never has and can't experience.

Claire watches them with a childlike curiosity, anxious about getting caught and at the same time fascinated by things she both never has and can’t experience.

She’s watched them fight over Kate for so long she never thought about the idea of them, these two men, fighting over who was the alpha male like a bunch of wild dogs. Sure, the longer they were here the more they seemed to get along but she never saw it going any further than that. Now, now that she knows, it kind of all makes perfect sense.

The night she finds out it’s because she’s the only one still up. She hasn’t been able to sleep, figures a nice moonlight walk on the beach might calm her down and get her mind to stop spinning. She pauses at Sawyer’s tent when she hears a groan, thinking that he must be making noises in his sleep. When she goes to separate the tent flap to look inside she catches a glimpse of Jack’s hand on Sawyer’s cock and somehow manages to jump back and not make a sound.

They don’t notice her anyways. They are far too wrapped up in each other to notice much of anything that’s going on outside of them.

She doesn’t mean to linger but she does. It’s intriguing, watching these two, but not for the same reasons that teenage boys watch porn. It’s not about arousal for her. It’s the idea of it that enthralls her. The idea of them. Two people, who couldn’t be more different and yet somehow so similar, joined together by this situation, loneliness, and now perhaps something else.

If it is something else, she never hears it. No declarations, no spoken feelings, but she’s always felt the unsaid was worth so much more.

No one else ever notices. There are no special smiles or gestures. She’s pretty sure they never tell anyone. But the few glimpses she gets of them every now and then make her acutely aware that, yes, there is something there. Something that isn’t just sexual.

And she knows it’s none of her business, and that what she’s doing is wrong, but she almost can’t help it. It’s like reading a good book where you just have to know how it ends and if the protagonists get together by stories close.

It’s not hurting anyone if no one ever finds out and if she has her way no one ever will.

Once again this was pretty much perfection. I love how you use your words, the placement and choice of them is pretty much the best it could possibly be. You use your plot so well too. I generally love how you take every part of your writing and pretty much use it to perfection.

+ Two Fics tonight.! Well done on being so productive sweetie.!

I love it! Its a very inspired idea and I like how you brought Calire into it, because it could have been Claire or somebody else easily, so its nice you choose Claire.

Is this *almost* mirroring one of the missing scenes from Expose? Its on the S3 bonus features DVD. Just guessing. =]
Stephanie (Amber): Jawyercita[info]slybrunette on March 24th, 2008 03:59 pm (UTC)
I'm a fan of Jack/Sawyer/Claire (aka Jawyercita) and so Claire seeing the two of them felt strangely natural to me. I'm used to writing those three together in one way or another.

And no, it wasn't based off of that scene, but it is pretty similar now that I think of it.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

I love this. Like someone else said, it reminds me of the deleted scene from Expose, but, like, a million times better, obviously

If it is something else, she never hears it. No declarations, no spoken feelings, but she’s always felt the unsaid was worth so much more.

That line. That is my favourite.
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on March 24th, 2008 04:08 pm (UTC)
You know, I wasn't even thinking about that scene, probably because I kind of hated it. But yeah, it bears some resemblance I guess.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

Eee! I love you! I love you! I love you! This was awesome. Youuuuu. This was just great. *contented sigh*

I think there's a typo here: "because she’s the only still up" - the only one?
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on March 24th, 2008 04:10 pm (UTC)
Hee, I was on a roll yesterday -- this and Sawyer/Claire. I'm glad you liked it!

And yes, typo. I was in a rush and I do not have a beta. Thanks! It's fixed now!

I really liked this!! I liked Claire's perspective on the issue and the glimpses we get from the first time she sees them together. I think you did a very good job describing why she was drawn to the idea of them together and I love the fact that she won't ever tell. This was great!
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on March 24th, 2008 04:22 pm (UTC)
Claire is very observant and I think I was pretty much relying on that with this fic. It's not exactly canon, but it could be some day.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

It's really cool to see a slash pairing from the other side, and I love how you wrote this! I also really like how Claire's willing to look out for them too :)
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on March 24th, 2008 08:25 pm (UTC)
I always like doing things from an outsider's perspective so this was definitely interesting to write.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

I was waiting for your lost fanfic with good pairing, and it is. *purr* I read. And I read again. Still, I hate Jack. But it doesn't matter, because here he's exactly like he should be here. Maybe because It's Claire's Jack, not Jack-Jack.
I don't like Claire. I don't like Jack/Sawyer (because It's Jack for the god's sake). But I love the way, you are writing them all. I don't understand that. Have I?
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on March 25th, 2008 07:50 pm (UTC)
lol, hell, I don't understand why I write this stuff. I'm not a Claire fan either (though I am a Jack fan, as you may have guessed).

Anyway, I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

I have never ventured down the Lost slash highway before, but I was really interested to see how you were going to work this out based on the prompts at [info]lostsquee. This was very beautiful. I don't know if it was the music I was listening to at the time or your word choice, but there was something very soothing about this story. I love the idea of Claire watching not out of sexual desire, but seemingly out of the desire to see it through to the end.

It’s like reading a good book where you just have to know how it ends and if the protagonists get together by stories close.

Very nicely done!
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on March 26th, 2008 01:57 am (UTC)
Well, welcome to slash. Although I'm probably not the person who you should be exploring via but I'm glad that you are. The thing about Claire watching them...not everything is blantantly sexual. I think she watches a lot, observes, and I like that and kind of used it to my advantage.

And I'm curious, what music was it that you were listening to?

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

I like the idea that Claire's happy to keep their secret, and that her interest isn't merely prurient - it kinda makes for a different slant on things, 'cause I know if I was in her place, I'd be watching for the obvious reasons!

Thanks for sharing!
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on March 26th, 2008 03:59 pm (UTC)
There's always some fun in knowing something that no one else knows. You feel part of something.

And yeah, I think most of us would be watching for those reasons too ;)

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!

Also, your header is fabulous!

I think that's my favorite part as well :)

As for the header, I wanted something with everyone in it, so thanks to [info]marylou_gr I've got it.

I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for reading!

I loved how you described the J/S relationship through Claire's eyes, and how she felt protective of them because they have found something worthy her silence. This was beautiful.
Stephanie (Amber): Claire[info]slybrunette on April 2nd, 2008 08:18 pm (UTC)
It's always fun to do things from an outsider's perspective because it's not so emotion focused. It's about observations and how Claire percieves them. And that's what made this fun to write.

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!
Laura: JACK + SAWYER[info]elise_509 on April 4th, 2008 04:51 am (UTC)
How do you write so much fic? I am amazed. I'm such a slow writer, it's a really awesome talent to be able to write prolifically; I'm totally jealous. ;)

This is great! There's such a shortage of Jack/Sawyer fic lately, and I have a little voyeurism kink (that only seems to apply to J/S!) and this is totally awesome in that way. I like Claire's view on what's going on between them and how she sees something more there, and how she just can't look away. I also love how she becomes protective of the two of them at the end, wanting to help protect what they have from being destroyed.

*loves you*
Stephanie (Amber): Jawyercita[info]slybrunette on April 8th, 2008 07:41 pm (UTC)
I get into a writing kick and I write for days on end. I just don't sleep that much.

There isn't very much J/S fic...that kind of pisses me off but given canon it makes sense. And even though I'm not a Claire fan I love writing from her perspective for some reason (maybe since I don't understand it).

I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for reading!
